Parenting for resilience
Parenting for resilience in challenging times
the foundations of radical care
A live, online, guided 8-week group for parents and carers, led by Jo McAndrews
Starts end September 2025
What is The foundations of radical care
The foundations of radical care is a guided, 8-week group for parents and carers who are aware that we are living in challenging times and who want to join with others in deepening your knowledge and practice about how to meet children’s urgent need for resilience.
It is based on my course The magic of warm listening which offers a framework for deep connection with your child as a foundation for understanding and supporting their needs. I have changed the title of our live version as I recognise that the original title doesn’t quite communicate the radical and urgent nature of the content. Click through to read all about the course itself.
The roots of true resilience begin in childhood, in the small, everyday interactions that shape how we grow. We’re all born ready for the most important relationships of our lives, but parenting in today’s world can feel painfully unsupported. Many of us didn’t receive the kind of care and connection we truly needed growing up, and now we’re doing our best to offer something better for our own children.
The world is getting more challenging. Climate and social crises are bringing increased anxiety and stress for children, young people and their parents. We are going to need strong skills and resilience to face and contribute to a changing future. The foundation of resilience is grown in warm, responsive relationships.
This course will offer you the insight, practical tools and encouragement to build strong, warm relationships with your child, and to become their greatest ally, especially in hard times.
I am offering two groups running alongside each other, one on Monday evenings and the other on Tuesday mornings. I am aware that parents have huge demands on their time and different schedules depending on work, support, age of children etc.
Monday evenings 7.30-9pm starting 29th September
Tuesday mornings 10-11.30am starting 30th September
Both groups run for 8 weeks with a half term break on the 27/28th October
For the live group, you will get access to the full self-paced course, plus weekly Zoom calls, live guided practices, and the support of a small group of fellow parents and carers walking this path alongside you, led by me, Jo McAndrews.
You don’t need to do this alone. The foundations of radical care is designed to hold you while you learn, to nourish you as you care for your children, and to connect you to other parents and carer who are engaged in the same journey.
What you’ll get with the live course
A friendly and compassionate online group space
8 weekly live sessions with Jo (via Zoom) at a time that suits you - either Monday evening or Tuesday morning
Lifetime access to the core Magic of warm listening course
Live guided practices and space for reflection
Optional buddy practice
Warm accountability and guidance to stay on track
A deeper sense of being accompanied as you learn
“I’ve been reading about parenting and learning about neurobiology and human communication since 2008 when my daughter was first born, and nothing has come close to being as good as The magic of warm listening. Jo’s expertise and warmth is unparalleled. I got more out of this course than I have done from any other course or book combined.”

Who is this course for?
This course is for you if you’re a parent or carer who wants to feel more connected to your children, to yourself, and to what really matters.
It’s especially for those who:
Are aware that we are living in very challenging times and want to do everything they can to equip their children to thrive and contribute now and in the future
Want to grow more calm, confidence and clarity in their parenting
Find themselves reacting in ways they regret, and want to shift those patterns
Are looking for parenting approaches that are truly respectful and emotionally aware
want to support their children through difficult times
Want support in navigating big feelings; their children’s or their own
Crave more spaciousness and connection in the midst of daily family life
Are hungry for deeper understanding and practical tools, not just tips and tricks
Long to feel part of a small, compassionate group while learning
You don’t need to have it all figured out. You don’t need to be calm all the time. You just need to be curious, willing to reflect, and open to learning in community.
If you’ve ever wondered, “What does my child really need from me? How do I find the support for this?’
This course is suitable for parents and carers of children of all ages, from babies and toddlers through to teens and young adults. The principles and practices of warm listening are lifelong, and can deepen your relationships at any stage.
It’s also for you whether you’re parenting alone, co-parenting, part of a blended family, or raising children in any constellation of care.
We will include understanding and care for neurodivergent children, not assuming that the same strategies work for everyone. This is about the deep foundations that every child needs and then applying them to your particular family in a way that works for you.
Parenting for resilience is for every kind of parent, and every kind of child.
Whatever your family looks like, you are welcome here.

Yes absolutely. In module one I offer some suggestions as to how this might work. However, if your partner is resistant, it might work better for you to do this on your own for now. Whilst you are welcome to work through this with a partner or co-parent, please respect the spirit in which this is offered and do not share your login details widely with others. If there is someone else you feel would benefit please invite them to enrol.
