Coaching and support for parents and carers
Sometimes life gets overwhelming and stress makes it difficult to see a way forward. We just need someone to sit with us and relieve some of the burden. Someone who will listen, empathise and help us work out what to do next, what is most important.
Would it be a relief to have someone thoughtful, experienced and non-judgemental to talk to about your parenting or caring journey?
I offer individual and couple support for parents, foster carers, grandparents and other adults who would like to improve their overall connection with their children or who would like to meet particularly tough times with a response that builds resilience and well being for everyone in the family.
You might need support with:
supporting children through anxiety or overwhelm
parenting without punishment
helping children with loss, grief, or bereavement
children’s needs when parents separate
school-related challenges or school refusal
repairing relationships with adult children
neurodiversity in the family
facing climate and ecological crisis
choosing home education
parenting in foster care contexts
Whatever your needs are, you are welcome here.
What our work together looks like
My approach is warm, respectful, and grounded in care. I listen deeply, hold space without judgment, and walk alongside you as you explore the situation you're in. Often, just being really heard makes it easier to find a way forward.
From there, I may offer ideas, strategies, or reflections based on many years of experience with families, professionals, schools and systems. Together we’ll explore how to build stronger, more resilient relationships in your family.
My work draws from a wide range of influences, including arts psychotherapy, trauma-informed practice, interpersonal neurobiology, mindfulness, and connected parenting. We may explore your own early experiences and how they shape your parenting now, or stay firmly focused on the present.
What matters is that it feels safe and useful to you. You can learn more about me here too.
“Jo's support for me and my family has been, quite simply, vital. Her warmth and resonance is something I had not yet experienced in my 5 or so decades, and for the first time I felt (and indeed learned) that my worries and difficulties made sense and were valid. Such a loving and dignifying gift to receive. Jo's utterly careful listening and sharing approach has offered me real clarity about my children's true needs as they struggled in the educational settings we sent them to, and as they subsequently left to begin experiencing a more compassionate and autonomous life.
Jo has accompanied me in my grief as I come to terms with the massive inadequacies of our conventional society in the face of real human and planetary needs; and we have laughed together - a lot.
The word 'grateful' does not have enough volume to hold my appreciation and respect.”

Practicalities
When do sessions take place?
Some people see me regularly at the same time each week. Others dip in when they need support. We’ll find a rhythm that suits you.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are one hour, and take place online via Zoom or phone.
How much does it cost?
We can start with a free 15-minute conversation to see if I am the right person to support you. After that I charge £70 per session. I hold a few lower-cost places for those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to access support, and some clients choose to pay more to help fund those sessions.
