Support and supervision

For professionals working with children and young people

Working with children and young people can be deeply rewarding, and it can also be demanding, emotionally complex and at times overwhelming.

What can support and coaching offer?

Whether you are supporting children in education, health and social care, the voluntary sector, or in therapeutic work, you may sometimes find yourself holding worry, uncertainty or responsibility that feels heavy to carry alone.

Supervision and coaching offer a steadying space to pause, reflect and regain clarity. It is a place where you can bring the challenges of your role, think through difficult situations, and feel supported both professionally and personally.

Many practitioners tell me that having someone sit alongside them with warmth and curiosity helps them reconnect with their purpose, replenish their energy and feel more grounded in their work.

I offer reflective, relational support for anyone working with or caring for children and young people, or managing those who do. Some come for a single session to think through a pressing issue and some meet with me regularly as part of their ongoing professional care.

What you might bring

Professionals come to supervision and coaching with a wide range of questions and experiences, including:

  • managing teams with stretched resources

  • managing and supervising challenging situations for staff members

  • navigating complex behaviour or emotional distress in young people

  • supporting families through separation, loss, grief or transition

  • working with children’s anxiety or school-related challenges

  • understanding the needs of neurodivergent children and young people

  • supporting foster carers or kinship carers

  • managing the emotional toll of trauma related work

  • working with climate related distress or other global concerns

  • feeling stuck, overwhelmed or unsure how to move forward in a particular situation

  • wanting support in developing a more relational, compassionate or trauma informed approach

The increasingly complex workload that professionals carry means that they are even more at risk of secondary trauma and burnout. I do not offer caseload clinical supervision or suggest how you should respond to particular cases. I offer support and coaching in the impact on staff members, how to manage challenging situations at work, and how to meet conflict in a resilient way.

I also work with neurodivergent team members to support their wellbeing at work and their capacity to do their job whilst being unapologetically themselves.

Supervision provides a space to think, feel, replenish and return to your work with more clarity and confidence.

How I work

My approach is warm, empathic, compassionate and non-judgmental. I have worked with children, families, schools and professionals for more than 30 years. I offer gentle accompaniment in the challenging moments of professional life, listening deeply and supporting you to think and feel through the issues you bring.

My work is informed by arts psychotherapy, trauma and recovery research, interpersonal neurobiology, mindfulness and connected, relational practice. I aim to create a supportive space where you can be honest, reflective and resourced enough to continue your work with steadiness and care.

How we might work together

We begin with careful listening to understand the context you are working in and what you are carrying. The experience of being heard with full attention often brings its own clarity. From there, we may explore new perspectives, consider strategies that strengthen relationships, and look at the latest research in child development, trauma and resilience as it relates to your work.

Our work together might include reviewing your own support systems, identifying practices that sustain your wellbeing, or thinking about how to build a culture of care within your team. Sometimes the work involves noticing where your own history intersects with your professional role and finding ways to work with greater awareness and compassion.

Each session is shaped by what you need in that moment.

Practicalities

I work flexibly to suit different roles and schedules. Some people come for regular supervision, others come occasionally or for a single session to think through a particular challenge. Together we will find a time that suits us both.

Sessions take place online via Zoom or by phone. We can start with a free 20-minute conversation to see whether I am the right person to support you. Ongoing sessions are charged at £150 for one hour for organisations and negotiable for individuals. Please get in touch to see what would work for you.
